PUBG Mobile Close-Range Fights: Win More Hip-Fire Battles

Close-range fights in PUBG Mobile are decided in under two seconds, which means the decision you make before firing matters more than your reaction speed. Most players lose these fights by scoping when they should spray, or spraying when they should scope. Get the decision right and the fight is half won before your first bullet.

Hip-fire or ADS: decide by distance

The rule is simple to state and hard to obey under pressure: inside room distance, hip-fire; beyond it, ADS.

Think of it in game terms rather than meters. If the enemy fills a big chunk of your screen, the target is so close that raising your sight wastes time and narrows your view while they strafe. Hip-fire and track. If they are across a compound or down a street, hip-fire spread will lose to a scoped enemy every time, so ADS even if it feels slow.

The gray zone is doorway-to-far-wall distance. There, the winner is usually whoever commits first, so pick one before the peek instead of deciding mid-fight. Hesitation, half-scoping while walking backwards, loses to both options.

SMG handling

SMGs are built for exactly this range, and they reward a specific style:

  • Keep moving while you spray. SMG hip-fire stays usable while strafing, which is the whole advantage. Standing still with an SMG throws that away.
  • Fight inside your range. An SMG player who closes distance beats a rifle player who let them. If you hold an SMG, your job is to force fights in buildings, compounds and tight lanes.
  • Reload behind cover, always. Close-range weapons burn magazines fast. The most common SMG death is the dry-mag death in the open.

If your tracking is the weak point, work on it deliberately. Our guide to improving aim on mobile covers drills that transfer directly to hip-fire tracking.

Crouch-spam: what it buys and what it costs

Tapping crouch during a close fight jerks your hitbox down and often makes the enemy's spray pass over your shoulder. It works, which is why everyone in TDM does it. But it has real costs:

  • It slows your strafe. Every crouch is a moment of reduced horizontal movement, so a disciplined tracker who ignores the bobbing and holds center-mass will still beat you.
  • It wrecks your own aim if overused. Your camera bounces with your character. One or two crouches with a stable crosshair beat frantic spamming.
  • It is predictable. Against players who fight in 1v1 rooms daily, rhythmic crouch-spam is a free two-tap.

Use crouch as punctuation, not rhythm. One crouch as their spray starts, then a hard strafe the other way, is worth more than five bounces in place.

Pre-firing corners

When you know an enemy is holding a corner, start firing just before your crosshair clears the edge. Your first bullets are already landing when you become visible, stealing their reaction-time advantage.

Pre-firing only works when the information is good. Fire on sound cues, a spotted position, or a known camping spot. Pre-firing every corner in the map empties your magazine and announces your position to everyone else. In TDM, where spawns and routes repeat, you can pre-fire the popular head-glitch spots on rotation and be right often enough to profit.

Close-fight positioning in TDM

TDM is the practice room for close fights, and positioning there follows a few rules that carry into every mode:

  1. Fight near cover, not in lanes. The open middle is where sprays come from three directions. Take fights at the edges where only one enemy sees you at a time.
  2. Anchor to a corner you can reset behind. Win the exchange, or duck out, heal and re-peek from a new height.
  3. Watch the respawn flow. After a kill, the next enemy comes from a predictable direction. Reposition slightly so their revenge peek finds an empty spot.
